[ About the software ]
The NEC NEC Express5800/T120a-M, NEC NEC Express5800/T120a-E System BIOS Update
Module ("the Software") supports the following functional enhancement in the
NEC NEC Express5800/T120a-M, NEC NEC Express5800/T120a-E models:
- Fixed the Intermittent Performance issue in Guest VMs on Hyper-V Ver.1.0.
- Fixed the Performance issue(slow down) occurs when Dialogic (R) Host Media
Processing Softwere Release 3.0 for Windows is uesd.
Added the following menu items in the BIOS SETUP MENU.

Note:
- To prevent a system failure, please read this document carefully and follow
the procedure for successful update. Should your system malfunctions or is
powered off due to an unplanned event during update (for example, power
blackout or cutoff, lightening, and noise), the system may be damaged and
fails to operate normally. In this case, any remedial measures shall be
taken at your expense.
- Before considering the implementation of Windows Server(R) 2008, be sure to
refer to the Hardware Information located in the NEC Express5800 Series
Windows Server(R) 2008 Information pages for hardware configurations.
- To use Windows Server(R) 2008, read thoroughly the Manual located in the
NEC Express5800 Series Windows Server(R) 2008 Information pages prior to
installation, so that no erroneous operation will be conducted.
- If Windows(R) BitLocker(TM) is enabled on your system, please disable it
temporarily during BIOS update. If you don't turn it off, you may need
"recovery password" after BIOS update.
- To update Windows Server(R) 2008 R2.
Please install OS after surely updating BIOS (a version 2A07 or future
version) which is supporting "Windows Server(R) 2008 R2".
- Please do not select ACPI C2 by the Processor C3 Report menu when you use
Hyper-V Ver.1.0 of Windows Server(R) 2008. When ACPI C2 is selected,
the display on guest VMs at the system time might be remarkably delayed.
- Please do not select ACPI C2 by the Processor C3 Report menu when you use
Dialogic(R) Host Media Processing Softwere Release 3.0 for Windows.
The performance deterioration problem occurs if ACPI C2 has been selected.

[ Models and software revisions to update ]
The following models with the BIOS versions stated below require BIOS update:
- Models to update:
1.NEC NEC Express5800/T120a-M
2.NEC NEC Express5800/T120a-E
- BIOS versions to update:
1.0.0A03
1.0.1A04
1.0.2A07
1.0.3A08
NOTE:
If your BIOS version is later than the above, you do not require the update
(the latest versions already include the functions to be added by the Software).
- How to confirm your BIOS version:
(1) Power on the system.
(2) When the following message appears, press the F2 key to start the BIOS
Setup Menu.
"Press <F2> to enter SETUP"
(3) Using the arrow keys, move the cursor to [Server].
(4) Select the [System Management] sub menu and press the Enter key.
(5) The software versions of your system will be displayed.
(6) After confirmation of the software versions, press the ESC key and exit
the [System Management] sub menu.
(7) Move the cursor to [Exit], using the arrow keys.
(8) Select [Exit Discarding Changes], and exit the BIOS Setup Menu.
See your User's Guide for more details about BIOS Setup.
If you use Windows(R) OS, confirm your BIOS version by following the steps
below:
1) Click Start - All Programs - Accessories - System Tools
- System Information.
2) Select System Summary.
3) See BIOS Version/Date for your BIOS version.

[ User License Agreement ]
Be certain to read carefully the following NEC software license agreement
before applying this software update module. If you can not agree to the terms
of the agreement, do not download this software. By downloading the software
you will be bounded by the terms of the agreement.
NEC Corporation ("NEC") grants you the right to use the Software under the
terms and conditions of this Agreement("Licensed Software") only in the country
in which you
acquired the Software. You shall agree to all provisions of this Agreement and
assume responsibility for selection, installation, use and effect of the
Software purchased for your desired effect.
1. Terms
1.1 This Agreement shall come into force on the date of your receipt of the
Software.
1.2 You may terminate the license granted hereunder by notifying us in writing
at least one month prior to the desired termination date.
1.3 NEC may terminate the license granted you hereunder at any time if you
fail to comply with any terms and conditions of this Agreement.
1.4 The license to the Software shall remain in force until the license is
terminated on the date set forth hereunder.
1.5 Upon termination of the license, other rights granted you hereunder shall
also be terminated. You must destroy or dispose of the Software, any copies
of the Software and manual and other materials provided with the Software.
2. Copyright
2.1 The Software shall solely be used in the NEC Express5800 servers and
workstations.
2.2 NEC grants you the right to use the Software only in the country in which
you acquired the Software in accordance with the conditions of the
preceding paragraph.
3. Copying, altering, and combining of the Software
3.1 You may only make one copy of the Software solely for a backup purpose,
provided, however, that the copy of the Software is loaded into permanent
memory of the system. You may store the Software solely to prevent damages
or loss of the memory media.
3.2 You shall place the copyright notice and other legends on each copy of the
Software.
3.3 You may not use, copy, alter, combine, publish, reproduce the Software over
the Internet, or otherwise dispose of the Software except as provided in
this Agreement.
3.4 You may not copy, publish the manual or other related documentation
provided with the Software, or reproduce such manual and documentation over
the Internet.
3.5 No intangible property right to the Software shall be transferred to you.
4. Transfer
4.1 You may assign your rights granted hereunder to a third party only if all
conditions below are satisfied:
a. You shall assign and shall not retain this Agreement, the Software, all
copies of the Software, or the manual or other related documentation
provided with the Software.
b. The transferee agrees to this Agreement.
4.2 You shall not sublicense, assign, transfer, or otherwise dispose of the
Software or the right of use to any third party except as provided herein.
5. Reverse compile
You may not reverse engineer, decompile, or otherwise disassemble the Software.
6. Limitation of warranties
6.1 The Software is provided "as is" without warranty of any kind. In no event
shall NEC be liable with respect to any claim by you on account of or
arising out of the use of the Software.
6.2 Notwithstanding the provisions of the preceding paragraph, in case NEC
makes any bug-fix version to the Software, NEC will, at its expense,
furnish you with such bug-fix version, update version, or information in
relation to such bug-fix or update version both in the source code form and
object code form, and such bug-fix version or update version shall be
considered as the licensed Software.
7. No liability
In no event shall NEC be liable for any indirect or consequential damages or
loss of profit or damages based on any third party claim, even if NEC has been
advised of the possibility of such damages.
8. Others
You must agree that any disputes concerning this Agreement will be settled at
the Tokyo district court as the exclusively appointed court.

[ BIOS update procedures ]
Perform the following steps to extract the Software and update your BIOS.
- How to extract:
(1) Download update module to a desired directory.
(2) Extract downloaded module to a desired directory.
(3) The Software and its installation procedures (readme file) will be
extracted to that specified folder.
