[Software introduction] 
The System BIOS Phoenix cME(tm) TrustedCore(tm) Server Release Phoenix cME(tm) 
TrustedCore(tm) Server Release 1.0.4S25(hereinafter the "Software")supports 
the following functional enhancement in the NEC NEC Express5800/120Rh-1, NEC 
Express5800/120Rj-2 models:

  - Supported Windows Server(R) 2008
  - Updated critical microcode 
           for DualCore Intel(R)Xeon(R) Processor 5200 series
  - Updated critical microcode 
           for QuadCore Intel(R)Xeon(R) Processor 5400 series
  

Note:
  - To prevent a system failure, please read this document carefully and follow 
    the procedure for successful update.  Should your system malfunctions or is 
    powered off due to an unplanned event during update (for example, power 
    blackout or cutoff, lightening, and noise), the system may be damaged and 
    fails to operate normally.  In this case, any remedial measures shall be 
    taken at your expense.
    
  - Before considering the implementation of Windows Server(R) 2008, be sure to 
    refer to the Hardware Information located in the NEC Express5800 Series 
    Windows Server(R) 2008 Information pages for hardware configurations.
    
  - To use Windows Server(R) 2008, read thoroughly the Manual located in the 
    NEC Express5800 Series Windows Server(R) 2008 Information pages prior to 
    installation, so that no erroneous operation will be conducted.
    
  - If Windows(R) BitLocker(TM) is enabled on your system, please disable it 
    temporarily during BIOS update. If you don't turn it off, you may need 
    "recovery password" after BIOS update.
    
  - To prevent the operating system boot failure, please record and restore
    the boot order of BIOS Setup Menu.

NOTE:
If your BIOS version is later than the above, you do not need to update. Your 
current BIOS already includes the functionality that the latest update module 
will provide. 


Be sure to confirm your BIOS version by following the steps below:

(1)  Power on the machine. 
(2)  When the following message appears, press the F2 key to start the BIOS 
     Setup Menu. 
                              "Press <F2> to enter SETUP"

(3)  Using the arrow keys, move the cursor to [Server]. 
(4)  Select the [System Management] sub menu and press the Enter key. 
(5)  The software versions of your system will be displayed. 
(6)  After confirmation of the software versions, press the ESC key and exit 
     the [System Management] sub menu. 
(7)  Move the cursor to [Exit], using the arrow keys. 
(8)  Select [Exit Discarding Changes], and exit the BIOS Setup Menu. 
 
(*)  Refer to the User's Guide for details on BIOS Setup. 


  If you use Microsoft(R) Windows(R) 2000, confirm your BIOS version by 
  following the steps below: 

    1)  Click Start - Programs - Accessories - System Tools 
        - System Information. 
    2)  Select System Summary.
    3)  See BIOS Version for your BIOS version. 

  If you use Microsoft(R) Windows Server(R) 2003, confirm your BIOS version by 
  following the steps below: 

    1)  Click Start - All Programs - Accessories - System Tools 
        - System Information. 
    2)  Select System Summary.
    3)  See BIOS Version/Date for your BIOS version. 

  If you use Microsoft(R) Windows Server(R) 2008, confirm your BIOS version by 
  following the steps below: 

    1)  Click Start - All Programs - Accessories - System Tools 
        - System Information. 
    2)  Select System Summary.
    3)  See BIOS Version/Date for your BIOS version. 


Be certain to read carefully the following NEC software license agreement 
before applying this software update module. If you can not agree to the terms 
of the agreement, do not download this software. By downloading the software 
you will be bounded by the terms of the agreement. 

[ License Agreement ]
NEC Corporation (hereinafter referred to as "NEC") grants you a personal and 
non-exclusive license to use the software (hereinafter referred to as the 
"Software") provided only on one machine at any one time.
Under the following terms of agreement, NEC grants you the right to utilize this
software program (hereinafter referred to as "Software"), but the customer will
be bound to these to the terms.
NEC will not be held liable for the use, installation, or the results of the use
of the licensed program.

1      Period
1.1    This Agreement shall come into force on the date of your receipt of the
       Software.
1.2    You may terminate the license granted hereunder by notifying us in 
       writing at least one month prior to the desired termination date.
1.3    NEC may terminate the license granted you hereunder at any time if you 
       fail to comply with any terms and conditions of this Agreement. 
1.4    Your rights to use the Software will continue until it is terminated in
       accordance with the provisions stated in this license agreement.
1.5    Upon termination of the license, other rights granted you hereunder shall
       also be terminated You must destroy or dispose of the Software, any 
       copies of the Software and manual and other materials provided with the 
       Software.

2      Usage right
       The Software shall solely be used in the NEC Express5800 server and 
       workstation products that operate Microsoft(R) Windows(R) 2000, 
       Windows Server(R) 2003, Windows(R) XP.

3      Copying, modifying, and combining
3.1    You are granted the permission to create one copy of the Software to use
       as a backup in case the program data becomes lost, damaged or destroyed.
       Once the Software is loaded into memory on a PC, a copy of the program 
       may be stored only as backup incase the fixed memory of the PC becomes 
       damaged or lost.
3.2    The copyrights and license agreement must be attached to all copies of 
       the Software.
3.3    Unless otherwise specified in this user license agreement, you may not 
       use, copy, alter the Software or combine it with another module. It may 
       not reproduced in any publications or networks. The handling of the 
       licensed program and/or documents must strictly follow the terms and 
       conditions of this license agreement, and at no time shall it be handled
       in any other terms.
3.4    All related documents (e.g., manuals) provided with the Software may not
       be copied, altered or reproduced in any publications or networks, under
       any circumstances.
3.5    This user license agreement does not transfer the intellectual property
       of the licensed program to the user.

4      Transfer
4.1    All rights of this license agreement may be transferred to another party
       ONLY when the following conditions are satisfied:
4.1.1  All materials including the Software, all copies of the Software, this 
       license agreement, and all other related documents are transferred to 
       the other party, and no material concerning the licensed program is 
       retained by you.
4.1.2  The recipient party agrees to conform to the terms of this user license
       agreement.
4.2    UNLESS OTHERWISE SPECIFIED IN THIS USER LICENSE AGREEMENT, THE SOFTWARE
       OR RIGHTS FOR ITS USE MAY NOT BE TRANSFERRED TO A THIRD PARTY. ALL 
       MATTERS CONCERNING THE TRANSFERRING OF THE RIGHTS AND PROGRAM MUST 
       STRICTLY FOLLOW THE TERMS AND CONDITIONS INCLUDED IN THIS LICENSE 
       AGREEMENT.

5      Reverse compile 
       You may not reverse engineer, decompile, or otherwise disassemble the 
       Software.

6      Limitation of warranties
6.1    NEC MAKES NO WARRANTIES, EXPRESSED OR IMPLIED CONCERNING THIS 
       SOFTWARE, AND WILL AT NO TIME, BE HELD LIABLE TO PAY FOR ANY EXPENSES 
       WHICH MAY BE INCURRED, SHOULD A PROBLEM RESULT FROM THE USE OF THE 
       SOFTWARE.
6.2    Regardless of the terms stated above in term 6.1, upon correction of 
       the Software errors (bugs), NEC may, at its own discretion, release an 
       update patch for error-correction (hereinafter referred to as 
       modification program), or information, including NEC approved method of
       error correction. The modification program provided to you will be 
       regarded as the licensed program, and will follow the terms and 
       conditions of this license agreement.

7      Limitation of liabilities
       In no event shall NEC be liable for any indirect or consequential 
       damages or loss of profit or damages based on any third party claim, 
       even if NEC has been advised of the possibility of such damages. 

8      Other restrictions
       The user must agree that any disputes concerning this user license 
       agreement will be settled at the Tokyo district court as the exclusively
       appointed court.

BIOS Update Procedure
================================================================================
  Perform the following procedure to extract the licensed software, and update 
your BIOS.

[ Extraction procedure ] 
1) Download "A4890025.EXE" to a folder in your hard disk drive. (e.g. C: ¥TEMP)
2) Stop all applications you are using.
3) Click Start - Run.
4) Enter "C:¥TEMP¥A4890025.EXE", and click OK.

You will be prompted to select a folder in which the extracted files will be 
stored. The required software and explanation files will be extracted to that 
specified folder. 


The drive and folder names may vary by systems.

 - Supported USB2.0 in POST.
 - The processor check functional enhancement by the POST.
     1. When you mounted the processor which Syetem BIOS does not support, 
        following POST Error Message is displayed.
          "0B28: Unsupported CPU detect on CPU Socket1"
          "0B29: Unsupported CPU detect on CPU Socket2"
     2. When the stepping of the processors exists together, following POST 
        Error Message is displayed.
          "8160: Mismatched Processor Type/Speed detected on Processor 1."
          "8161: Mismatched Processor Type/Speed detected on Processor 2."
 - The memory manufactured from Micron Technology and Inc is supported.
 - There is the case that Kernel Panic occurs when you start the Linux OS in the
   following conditions.
     1. When you mounted the processor
     2. "Intel SpeedStep(R) Technology" is set to Enabled with BIOS Setup. 
     3. Redhat Linux 4.5 or 4.6

 - Updated critical microcode 
          for DualCore Intel(R)Xeon(R) Processor 5200 series
 - Updated critical microcode

 - Fixed Memory Problem in Linux.
   The memory performance will degrade when becoming a high load in Linux.
 - Change Default setting of Boot order in BIOS Setup Menu.
     - Add USB HDD as 7th Device.
     - Change PCI BEV to 8th from 7th.
     (*)USB Flash is recognized as USB HDD, if the capacity is 1GB or more.
        USB Flash is recognized as USB KEY, if the capacity is less than 1GB.
 - Updated AHCI BIOS.
     AHCI BIOS Rev 1.00a_1128_2005 => 1.10_E_06202007
   Fixed the problem that SMART Error will be displayed in AHCI BIOS Option ROM,
   if the NMI Button is pushed on the operating system.
 - When the PCI card equipped with Option ROM is mounted on PCI slot #1C/#2C/#3C
   , the time of POST might become long.

2008/03/27  Phoenix cME(tm) TrustedCore(tm) Server Release 1.0.3S23
 - Supported Windows Server(R) 2008
 - Add the following BIOS Setup Menu for new feature of Processor.
     Main - Processor Settings - Hardware Prefetcher
     Main - Processor Settings - Adjacent Cache Line Prefetch
 - Fixed the processor clock display problem.
   The processor clock will not be correctly displayed in Windows Server(R) 
   2008, if the system is mounted QuadCore Intel(R)Xeon(R) Processor that 
   supports N2 ratio feature.
 - Fixed the problem system reset occurs in POST.
   The system reset will occur in POST, if the system is mounted 4GB Memory, 
   and set "Extended RAM Step" as 1KB in BIOS Setup Menu.

2008/05/12  Phoenix cME(tm) TrustedCore(tm) Server Release 1.0.4S25
 - In the device of an onboard RAID composition, when the configuration of the 
   RAID system is not done, CD-ROM Boot cannot sometimes be done. 
 - When the SCSI CARD is connect to the following PCI slots, processing will 
   become slow if it backs up at ARCserve. 
   PCI slot #3B of NEC Express5800/120Rj-2 which connected N8116-07 riser card
