About the software The NEC Express5800/R120f-2E, NEC Express5800/T120f NM firmware update module ("the software") supports the following functional enhancement. - Fixed the problem CPU frequency decreases and keep in high work load state after AC input turned ON in the server that ServerManager managed and monitored. Note: - To prevent a system failure, please read this document carefully and follow the procedure for successful update. Should your system malfunctions or is powered off due to an unplanned event during update (for example, power blackout or cutoff, lightening, and noise), the system may be damaged and fails to operate normally. In this case, any remedial measures shall be taken at your expense. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 2. Models and software revisions for update Users who use the following server models and NM firmware revision need update: - Models to update: 1. Express5800/R120f-2E 2. Express5800/T120f - NM firmware revision to update: NM Firmware Version : 3.0.6.267 Descriptor Revision : 04021300 NM Firmware Version : 3.1.3.21 Descriptor Revision : 06020100 NM Firmware Version : 3.1.3.21 Descriptor Revision : 06020200 NM Firmware Version : 3.1.3.21 Descriptor Revision : 06030500 NM Firmware Version : 3.1.3.21 Descriptor Revision : 06030600 NOTE: If your NM firmware revision are later than the above, you do not require the update(the latest revisions already include the functions to be added by the software). 2-1. How to confirm your NM Firmware revision: - By BIOS Setup, to confirm your NM Firmware and Descriptor Revision: (1) Power on the system. (2) When the following message appears, press the F2 key to start the BIOS Setup Menu. "Press to enter SETUP" (3) Using the arrow keys, move the cursor to [Server]. (4) Select the [System Management] sub menu and press the Enter key. (5) The software revisions of your system will be displayed. (6) After confirmation of the software revisions, press the ESC key and exit the [System Management] sub menu. (7) Move the cursor to [Exit], using the arrow keys. (8) Select [Exit Discarding Changes], and exit the BIOS Setup Menu. - By NEC ESMPRO Manager Ver.6, to confirm your NM Firmware revision: (1) Run NEC ESMPRO Manager on remote PC. (2) After selecting the server, select the [Remote Control] tab. (3) Select the [IPMI Information] sub menu. (4) Select the [Management Controller Information] sub menu. (5) Select the [NodeManager Ctlr] sub menu. (6) Confirm the [Firmware Revision] and [Dump]. If [Firmware Revision] is 03.13, [Dump] Byte13 is 02, Byte14 is 10, it means NM Firmware revision of your system is 3.1.3.21. If NM Firmware revision is 3.1.3.21, Confirm the descriptor revision by BIOS Setup. - By EXPRESSSCOPE(R) Engine 3 Web Server function, to confirm your NM Firmware revision: (1) Run EXPRESSSCOPE(R) Engine 3 Web Server function. (2) Select the [System] sub menu. (3) Select the [IPMI Information] sub menu. (4) Select the [MC] sub menu. (5) Select the [NodeManager Ctlr] sub menu. (6) Confirm the [Firmware Revision] and [Dump]. If [Firmware Revision] is 03.13, [Dump] Byte13 is 02, Byte14 is 10, it means NM Firmware revision of your system is 3.1.3.21. If NM Firmware revision is 3.1.3.21, Confirm the descriptor revision by BIOS Setup. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 3. Installation procedures - Prepare a CD-R for the update NM firmware. - How to copy the install CD-R: (1) Download the update module to a desired directory. (2) Extract the downloaded module to a desired directory. (3) The software and its installation procedures (readme file) will be extracted to that specified folder. The folder has "CyG1_Desc_UpdateTool_07030700.iso" and "README_EN.TXT". (4) Write the ISO image file to a CD-R by any CD writing program. (5) Mark the NM Firmware version and descriptor revision on the media. - How to Install NM firmware: (1) Insert the CD-R into the optical disk drive of your system, and boot the system from the CD-R. (2) System will turn off the power once, and turn on the power again about 30 secconds - 2 minutes later automatically . (3) The following messages are displayed in POST at second time power on. This is expected behavior no need to worry. "WARNING: C501 ME is in Recovery Mode." (4) Boot the system from the CD-R again, Automatically update NM firmware using the CD-R(about 2 minute). DO NOT turn off the power until the complete. After the normal complete, the following messages are displayed. "NMFW/Descriptor Update was succeeded." "Please remove the CD, then press ENTER key to power cycle." (5) Eject the CD-R and press enter key to reboot the system. System will turn on the power again about 30 secconds - 2 minutes later automatically . (6) Enter to BIOS SETUP by pressing key and confirm that the NM Firmware Version and Descriptor Revision has been updated to the version listed below. NM Firmware Version : 3.1.3.51 Descriptor Revision : 07030700 -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 4. Note 4-1.Note for updating NM firmware (1) Check the boot sequence of your system in order to boot the disk drive of the CD-R at first. 4-2.Update BIOS revision to 5.0.4009 or later, before using the software. 4-3.During updating NM Firmware, following message will display at POST screen. This is expected behavior no need to worry. "WARNING: C501 ME is in Recovery Mode." 4-4.If ECO setting exists, it will be initialized with update. Please backup the setting before update, then restore the setting after update. How to backup and restore ECO setting: - By NEC ESMPRO Manager Ver.6, to backup and restore your ECO setting: If you have installed ESMPRO in remote environment and using it, you can backup and restore ECO setting by following way. Select Server name you want to backup/restore, [setting]->[backup/restore]->[backup]->[BMC setting-ECO] then carry out backup. Regarding to restore, choose [setting]->[backup/restore]->[restore] then carry out restore "eco.json". - By EXPRESSSCOPE(R) Engine 3, to backup and restore your ECO setting: If you have installed EXPRESSSCOPE Engine in remote environment and using it, you can backup and restore ECO setting by following way. Select [setting]->[backup/restore]->[backup] then carry out backup [ECO(eco.json]. Regarding to restore, choose [setting]->[backup/restore]->[restore] then carry out restore "eco.json". - By Server Configuration Utility, to backup and restore your ECO setting : Windows/LinuxOS If you install Server Configuration Utility and using it, you can backup and restore ECO setting by following way. Select [backup/restore]->[backup]->[ECO] then carry out backup ECO setting. regarding to restore, choose [setting]->[backup/restore]->[restore]->[ECO] then carry out restore "eco.json". - By Off-Line Tool, to confirm and re-set your ECO setting: Off-Line Tool has no function to backup and restore ECO setting. it is needed to perform confirmation, record, re-setting by following way. Power on the system. POST message will be displayed under a screen. Press key to start Off-line Tool MENU according to POST message. Select [Server Configuration Utility]->[ECO]->[Configuration] then perform confirmation, record ECO setting. Regarding to restore, perform re-setting by same menu. 4-5.If "Suspended Period" is set from NEC ESMPRO/ServerManager Ver.6, the setting will be initialized with update. If you need to keep "Suspended Period setting", perform confirmation, record, re-setting by following way. Select Server name you want to confirm setting, [Remote Control]->[Power Management]->[ECO setting]->[Suspended Period setting] then perform confirmation, record Suspended Period setting before update if needed. then restore the setting after update. Regarding to restore, perform re-setting by same menu after update. 4-6.Just after updating NM Firmware, STATUS LED lights amber, and SEL of sensor fault is sometimes logged, but no need worry. When this phenomenon occurred, please plug out and in an AC cable. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 5.
