The above NEC products support Microsoft Windows Server 2012 R2 by applying the "Express5800 Server
Series - Support Kit for Windows Server 2012 R2," which is the generic name of the modules for Windows
Server 2012 R2 delivered through this page.

About installing Windows Server 2012 R2
Before installing the Support Kit, be sure to read the Installation Guide (Windows Server ® 2012 R2
Installation Guide) carefully and check the installation procedure.
- Download any necessary driver modules for installing Windows Server 2012 R2 from the tables below
and expand them on DVD-R or other media.
See the Installation Guide or Readme.txt included in each module for details on how to expand the
modules.
- Activation is required.
- Install Windows Server 2012 R2 following instructions for a new installation. It is not recommended
upgrading from Windows Server 2012 or Windows Server 2008 R2 or Windows Server 2008.
- Do not install Windows Server 2012 R2 with the EXPRESSBUILDER media attached to the GT110e-S.
- The work which is needed before installing Windows Server 2012 R2
- Before you install Windows Server 2012 R2, set the "SATA Mode" to "IDE Mode" using the BIOS
Setup tool.
* When using an on-board RAID controller (LSI Embedded MegaRAID), this setting is not
necessary.
- RAID drive configuration must be completed before Windows Server 2012 R2 installation.
- Before installing Windows Server 2012 R2, remove RDX, UPS, etc.
- The work which is needed after installing Windows Server 2012 R2
- Apply the NEC Express5800 Driver Set (= Starter Pack) after you install Windows Server 2012
R2. For more information see the Supplemental Installation Guide.
Notes for using Windows Server 2012 R2 Operating System
- Check whether various optional products are supported by Windows Server 2012 R2 in the Installation
Guide.
- The RAID controller (N8103-149/-150/-151/-167) does not support the standby/hibernation feature. Do
not use standby/hibernation feature.
- If you use the Core Parking function of Windows Server 2012 R2, log in as the administrator after
installing the operating system and enable this feature. Click on the following link for further
details.
- Wake On LAN is only supported with a factory-installed standard network adapter.
- Only data connections are available in iSCSI feature. iSCSI Target and iSCSI Boot are not supported.

When you create logical drive by using the Universal RAID Utility, the following message appears on
the Windows Event Log, but this is not an error of the system operation.
* The display of the event log may vary depending on your system environment.
* The event log may display useless characters. This is not an error of the system operation, and
this can be resolved for the
characters to be displayed correctly by installing the Microsoft update through Windows
Update. For more information, see

Notes for using the Windows Server 2012 R2 Server Core/Minimal Server
Interface
- Switching to the GUI interface while running Server Core is not recommended because it can produce
unintended effects on applications or drivers.
- NEC ESMPRO Manager is not supported.
- To use NEC ESMPRO Agent on Server Core, see "NEC ESMPRO Agent Ver.4.6 Installation Guide"
for details.
Notes for using Hyper-V
Notes for using BitLocker
- Without a recovery password, you will no longer be able to activate operating system and contents of
the BitLocker-encrypted partition will not be available. Always keep the recovery password in a safe
place. For more information, see the "Instruction Guide" below.
- If you install OS in a partition which was previously encrypted with BitLocker, remove the encrypted
partitions first.
